Leemei was born in Malaysia and has spent most of her years there. She has also lived in Perth, Western Australia for 2 years. After graduation, she spent 3 years working in Kuala Lumpur before quitting her job to travel and work around Europe, where she finally based herself in London where she is currently living with her French husband.

She has been featured in the New York TimesGrazia magazine and several other food magazines in the UK, such as BBC Olives and Delicious and Flavours magazine in SE Asia. Besides, she has also been developing and writing recipes for Malaysian Kitchen and WorldFoods.

She began specializing in food photography since 2007. She photographs anything from raw ingredients to cooked dishes. Her portfolio can be found on Leemei Tan Photography.

Lemongrass and Ginger: Vibrant Asian Recipes is her debut cookbook, published by Duncan Baird Publishers in April 2012. It is a compilation of over 100 vibrant recipes from Japan & Korea, China, Philippines & Indonesia, Malaysia & Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia & Vietnam and finally India & Sri Lanka. It is a cookbook that makes it possible and easy for home cooks to master the art of preparing delectable Asian cuisine.

Good food has always been important to Leemei. She has spent a lot of time, since a young age, in the kitchen watching her mother cooking. Her attention to detail and great determination have have naturally led her to be well equipped with essential cooking knowledge and skills. She is passionate about making it, writing about it, photographing it, and of course eating it!

Her style of cooking has always been fresh, practical, simple, healthy and delicious. Her travel experiences have greatly inspired her in creating new recipes. She cooks Asian, Modern French and Franco-Asian food.
