“Never skip your breakfast!” That’s what mom says all the time. Even if it’s just a hot drink with a slice of bread, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast literally means breaking fast, indicating the end of the fast of the previous night.
Eating breakfast reduces hunger later in the day, making it easier to avoid overeating. If you skip breakfast, this prolongs fasting which can increase your body’s insulin response, that in turn increases fat storage and weight gain. In fact, skipping breakfast actually increases your risk of obesity.
Skipping breakfast can lead to tiredness, lack of concentration and poor performance at work or school. It also means that you are more likely to snack on unhealthy foods such as chocolate or crisps before lunch.
Growing up in Malaysia, there are many options to choose from. It can range from bread to noodles. Quick and healthy cereals is something common to be eaten as breakfast too. I always opt for soya milk for lower fat content, a lower proportion of saturated fat and no cholesterol. Besides, it is also a good source of protein.
Muesli is a cereal made from toasted oats, nuts, fruits and wheat flakes. Muesli is very rich in fibre. It is definitely a great choice to start the day. Muesli is commonly eaten with either milk, soya milk or yoghurt. Nowadays, you can get muesli from any supermarkets and they come in different types – muesli with fruits, nuts, and seeds. I particularly love those with fruits and nuts. Even snacking on them is a true joy.

I discovered Dorset Cereals not too long ago. I am totally in love with the muesli! Dorset Cereals is based in Dorset, UK. Dorsert Cereals offers great range of products from muesli to cereal bars and slices. The ingredients used are the best possible that can be sourced. Their 10 recipes for muesli are just fantastic! I have tried quite a few and absolutely love them!

My breakfast is a huge glass of fruit/vegetable juice. Occasionally I have a bowl of whole wheat cereal with cold milk. If I am in Malaysia it will be a whole new menu

I have muesli and yogurt for breakfast every morning. I like to mix in dried goji berries or other mixed fruit to boost the flavor. I've seen dorset cereal in some of the import stores around Tokyo, but it's so expensive over here that I haven't been able to bring myself to try it yet!
August 1st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
I've not tried these yet!!!!! YUM!!!! They all sound incredible!!
Breakfast is different many mornings although I would say that my favorite consistant choices are greek yogurt/honey/fruit/granola or oatmeal/fruit/maple syrup/chopped nuts or sprouted cinnamon raisin english muffins with almond butter and a sliced banana.
August 1st, 2009 at 11:51 pm
It's usually cereal with milk in the morning, one of my favourites is warm weetabix with milk, bananas and a drizzle of honey.
August 1st, 2009 at 11:55 pm
I make parfaits with yogurt, fresh berries, and granola–or my new favorite is a breakfast quesadilla with peanut butter, banana, and honey.

On regular days, it's just tea with some bread. On my weekends, it's soft boiled eggs and kaya toast. On *naughty* days, it's nasi lemak or bak chor mee or fried radish cake, washed down with Teh Tarik. What to do? Temptation looms everywhere!

Hi, I totally agreed with you that breakfast is really important. I used to skip breakfast as I always in a rush to work. However, I pick up having taking my breakfast 3 years ago when I realised breakfast is so much important to start a day. Nowadays I will have a cup of hot organic oat milk with either granola/oats or muesli. And if I will to be late for work, I will simple having a cereal bar for breakfast. Mmmm…..it was simple delicious. Have yet to try this brand that you mention above, hopefully I am the lucky one to win the above prize.

My breakfast in Indonesia was tumeric rice with an omelet, fried shallots, some basil leaves, chili sauce and shrimps chips but in Erie, PA, my breakfast is a piece of bread with thin spread of margarine and PB.
and I always have them with a glass of water.
August 2nd, 2009 at 8:27 am

I used to have unhealthy breakfast like nasi lemak and noodles as breakfast. I only started trying out muesli after getting married. Since then, I love them so much. I even ate them as breakfast during my confinement! But I am not sure whether I can find Dorset cereals in Singapore. Will try to look out for it.
August 2nd, 2009 at 3:14 pm
I had watermelon and feta cheese the other day – topped with black pepper and pumpkin seeds. Rather nice I thought
August 2nd, 2009 at 6:40 pm

August 2nd, 2009 at 6:41 pm
i usually have a hot bowl of oatmeal prepared in soy milk, with some frozen fruits.
August 2nd, 2009 at 8:58 pm
Such cute packaging! Those cereals look absolutely amazing.
For breakfast I have greek yogurt with granola, fruit, and a little honey. If I’m feeling indulgent and have extra time in the morning, I’ll make a waffle and top it with the above, yum.

These look good. Usually my breakfast is chicken macaroni soup or garlic rice and tocino!! yum!
August 3rd, 2009 at 12:58 am
I get so cranky if I don't have breakfast in the morning, heh heh.
One of my favourite breakfasts is in fact muesli in either yogurt, milk or juice. It's simple yet oh so good!
August 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 am
I just had an egg tart with a mug of milk tea. Now I feel like I should have eaten my cereal and milk instead of having dessert for breakfast!
August 3rd, 2009 at 6:20 am
I like Instant Butter Flavored Grits. Also a hard boiled egg or two.

Since growth up in Malaysia, the most common and easy to get breakfast is 'nasi lemak'. However, I normally have oat for my breakfast follow by a cup of coffee. Once in a while will tempted for 'nasi lemak' too

My weekday breakfast is my homemade granola recipe (although I have had Dorset cereals for breakfast in the past – my husband colleague is particularly fond of their porridges). But my favourite is a soft runny egg with buttered (white) toast soldiers and marmite. Saying that the most romantic breakfast was on my first visit to Bali after a horrible long flight from London with too many stops. We had coffee, freshly made thick pancakes, local yogurt and dark sweet runny honey with slices of juicy ripe pineapple, mangoes and papaya which we ate on our balcony overlooking the luxurious gardens. I can even smell and taste it now. It was so different from anything I had experienced before. Luscious. ps only recently found your site – great food and a nice layout! : )

Breakfast for me usually consists of a toasted bread with butter or porridge with almond roasted peaches with a cup of coffee.
August 4th, 2009 at 7:44 am
It changes every day for me, the only constant is a coffee of some description. But it ranges from a piece of fruit to muesli and yoghurt to cooked breakfasts…all depends on my mood on the day
August 4th, 2009 at 8:16 am
I enjoy a good healthy breakfast. Always been a fan of cereal. Dorset Cereals is most definately the nicest ceral I've had in the UK. It's great with soya yoghurt or milk! Well worth the money.

I love Dorset cereals, I find myself snacking on them any time of the day when I'm feeling peckish. In fact, I have some in my kitchen but supplies are getting low, so I hope I win something! Hehe.
For breakfast I tend to crave sweet things, so toast with jam or cereal for me, with plenty of cold milk. Not forgeting a cup of decaff coffee.
August 5th, 2009 at 5:50 am
My favourite healthy breakfast is blending a 4-berry smoothie made from 1 cup of 4-berries blend (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries), 1/2 banana, 1 cup of orange juice, 2 tbps low-fat yogurt, and 1 tbps freshly ground flaxseed. its delicious and very refreshing to start my day!
August 5th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
Weekdays = Mint and ginger tea with a slice of wholegrain toast ( has to be Warburtons). Saturdays = fried roti and omlette. Sundays Pastries, samosas and pakoras ( yes it most definately does go downhill during the week). I used to religiously have porridge with raisans or dates and honey every morning but i've become a naughty girl, no time before work now unfortunately as i like to boil my milk instead of the microwave.
But i can't deny, no breakfast makes me very moody and i end up indulging at lunch time, especially with the chocies, sweets and crisps naughty naughty.
August 6th, 2009 at 3:25 am
Sounds like a delicious way to start the day =)
August 6th, 2009 at 8:00 am
I eat this stuff most morning – the blue berry packet is amazing (quite pricey though).
Mmmmmm. Great with some natural youghurt
Thanks

i am a boring person. i have the same breakfast everyday – a cup of coffee plus a piece of toast.
August 7th, 2009 at 4:17 am
I need my breakfast or else i'll get real grumpy. I love mine with a slice of toast with kaya and butter, half a cup of high fiber cereal and a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Instant gratification!
August 7th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Because no one really cooked at home, i had grown up with fast food, even for breakfast…every morning! Now though, i tend to have a small bowl of rice, with miso soup, pickles and any leftover vegetables (or if i'm lucky, fish~) (^-^)b a much better start to the day~
August 7th, 2009 at 3:55 pm
Those pictures have me drooling. I'm trying a very low carb diet at the moment; it's a bit like South Beach. I have an Eggbeater omelet, plus some turkey breakfast sausage. If I'm still hungry, I'll have a piece of fruit. It's very low fat, only "good" carbs, and very very satisfying. If I should win, I'd cheat and have my prize for breakfast the very next day
Love your blog; thanks so much for all your work.
Hugs,
Diane

Ooh! Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. Toast drizzled with honey, toast with poached egg, oatmeal, or muesli mixed in yoghurt!
